We're often asked that question. This map gives you a rough comparison with the east coast of the States. If Okinawa were to be included, Japan would extend south to the tip of Florida. If the contested northern islands (currently under Russia's control) were also included, Japan would extend north to the tip of Maine. The temperature and climate extremes are roughly the same as you would find between Maine and Florida. However, the Yokohama/Kawasaki area, which fall in the middle of Japan, tends to be very balmy in the winter, and uncomfortably humid in the summer.
